Pregnancy with endometriosis is possible. Although the condition is more common among infertile women, there is no causal relationship.
In other words, the condition does not cause infertility, nor does infertility cause the condition. But, if it worsens as the years go by, it can damage the ovaries or cause scarring of the fallopian tubes.
So, the first step is to try and get the problem under control as soon as possible. There is no cure, but it can be managed effectively.
Surveys indicate that women with endometriosis are more likely to have fibromyalgia, asthma, allergies, ME/CFS and autoimmune diseases. Excessive inflammation is associated with all of these conditions and is the cause of pain in endometriosis.
Much research has been done about how the inflammatory process works and why diseases involving excessive inflammation have become more common over the years. Many experts believe that modern dietary habits are the underlying cause.
Some foods cause or contribute to inflammation, while others have natural anti-inflammatory activity. Mostly, it is the processed and prepared foods that cause inflammation, while natural foods like fruits, vegetables and true whole grains have anti-inflammatory activity.
In particular, the cruciferous vegetables have proven to be helpful for managing pain and for balancing hormones. Balancing your hormones could increase your chances of achieving pregnancy with endometriosis by contributing to normal ovulation.
The cruciferous vegetables include broccoli, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, kale, collard greens, cauliflower, canola, rutabaga, radish and many others. Women with hypothyroidism should be careful to cook the vegetables for 30 minutes in order to reduce compounds that interfere with production of the thyroid hormone.
If hypothyroidism is not a problem, you can basically eat all that you want of those foods, fresh or cooked. You might also need to increase your intake of the omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil.
Fish oil might not help you achieve pregnancy with endometriosis, but it is known to have natural anti-inflammatory activity. One of the shortfalls of the modern diet has to do with a shift from eating fish and seafood to eating beef, pork and poultry.
Many researchers believe that this shift has caused systematic inflammation, an increased risk of heart disease and more cases of cancer. Taking a fish oil supplement could help correct the imbalance.
The active compound in cruciferous vegetables is also available in supplement form. It's called indole-3-carbinol.
Take the holistic approach to pregnancy with endometriosis, before you resort to medication or surgery. The effectiveness of drugs and surgery is questionable at best.
