- The Houston Zoo has over 55 acres with live exhibits of animals from around the world. A daily calendar of events shows upcoming activities.
The Armand Bayou Nature Center is another animal-related attraction with Sunday hours of operation. As with a zoo, the center offers learning opportunities about animals such as birds of the wetlands, prairie and marsh areas around the Armand Bayou. There are live-animal exhibits and trails around the area.
Houston Garden Center is on the edge of Hermann Park. The center has trails full of plant life as well as a full rose garden. - Space Center Houston sits just 20 miles outside Houston. Interactive exhibits, live shows and tours of the Johnson Space Center are just some of the on-site activities. A present-day mission-control center is another highlight for visitors.
- The Houston Museum of Natural Science features permanent exhibits on topics such as paleontology with over 450 fossils or replicas of fossils. An exhibit on America emphasizes different cultures through distinctive items.
The Museum of Fine Arts houses art from around the world. Some exhibits include the Art of Africa, Art of Asia and Art of North America. The Cullen Sculpture Garden on site has works from prominent artists like Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso. - Glenwood Cemetery offers a glimpse into Houston's past. First open in 1871, the cemetery's landscape came into creation during the Buffalo Bayou floods. Aviator Howard Hughes Jr., Hollywood actress Gene Tierney and Texaco founder Joseph S. Cullinan are all buried here.
Orange Show is a group of indoor and outdoor passages that consists of items such as stairs, platforms and colored tiles. A Houston eccentric put it together over a period of 26 years. Guests are admitted from March through December.
