- 1). Carefully brush away any particles of foreign matter that you can see on the lens using a fine-bristled brush, such as a camel hair brush that can be found in most hobby stores. Brushing must be done with great care.
- 2). Remove three sheets of lens tissue and squeeze one drop of cleaning solution onto the center of the lens while the lens is held in a level, flat position. Do not use more then a drop of cleaning solution for small lenses.
- 3). Hold the tissue between two fingers and gently distribute the fluid uniformly around the optical surface, but do not rub. Quickly use the second dry tissue under two fingers to wipe the lens gently and uniformly to remove excess fluid.
- 4). When the lens appears fairly dry, use the third tissue to polish the surface gently to remove any streaks. Wipe the edges near the lens mount (if any) to remove any excess fluid or spots.
- 5). Use more lens tissue and a few extra drops of cleaning fluid for larger lenses. A forth tissue may be required when working with larger lenses, but do not use an excessive amount of cleaning fluid.
- 6). Reattach the lens and make several observations to ensure the lens is clean and that there is no streaking on the lens. If needed, repeat the cleaning steps until the lens is clean and streak-free.
