- 1). Cut the piece of hardwood for the clamping jaw to fit your shoulder vise arm. The jaw will be cut into an L-shape with the narrower portion fitting underneath the shoulder of the table.
- 2). Measure and mark a center point, centered both vertically and horizontally on the bench's shoulder vise arm. Drill a hole 1/8-inch larger than the diameter of the shoulder vise screw through the mark in the shoulder vise arm. Be sure to stay level and square to the arm as you drill.
- 3). Insert the shoulder vise screw through the hole in the shoulder vise arm. Attach the vise screw's mount to the back side of the arm with the wood screws provided with the vise screw.
- 4). Attach the maple handle through the shoulder vise screw's T-handle. Glue the or screw the secondary knob onto the maple handle.
- 5). Measure and drill the holes in the shoulder arm, bench and shoulder vise jaw to accommodate the guide bar. Then, align the jaw for the shoulder vise, and attach the four screws from the end of the jaw screw.
- 6). Install the guide bar and test the motion of the shoulder vise before plugging the end of the guide bar with a plug made from the same hardwood as the shoulder arm.
