Paper Making

• Paper making is the process that most commonly uses paper slurry. In paper making, paper slurry is poured and flattened over a mesh, creating a sheet of paper once it is dry. The finer the slurry, the more thin and fine the paper is. A very chunky slurry creates a rough paper with deep hills and grooves in it, and it may be used to create a very distinct sheet of paper. Add cloth fibers to the slurry to give it a different look.
  
  

Paper Quilt

• Add color in the form of dyes, paints or colored shreds of paper to the paper slurry and then form squares of paper from the treated slurry. Make squares of paper created from slurry of different colors or textures, but make sure that they each have the same weight. After all of the squares of paper are dried, glue them together along the edges to make a quilt. This is an excellent project for children, where they each make their own square which is then added to a larger quilt.
  
  

Paper Mache

• Paper slurry contains all of the ingredients necessary to make paper mache except for a binder to hold it together. Paper slurry for paper making must be used right away, and if you find that you have leftovers, you can use the remainder to do paper mache sculpting. Add flour or white glue to the paper mache until it has a thick, slightly stiff consistency, and then start to mold it as you would clay. Once it dries, it creates a light, but solid form.
  
  

Molding

• To make a thicker piece of card stock that is not meant to have the flexibility of a thin sheet of paper, press the paper slurry over a mold rather than a mesh. A shallow mold causes the paper to dry into sunken shapes, creating subtle designs in the surface of the slurry. Use these interesting textures to adorn other projects or as cards to send.
