- 1). Know the difference between regular glove sizes and catcher's mitt sizes. Regular gloves are measured from the top of the index finger to the heel of the glove, usually ranging between 9 and 12.5 inches. However, catcher's gloves are measured by circumference, usually ranging between 31 and 34.5 inches.
- 2). Measure your regular glove. Use flexible measuring tape so that it can press up against the contours of the glove. Hold the measuring tape at the tip of the index finger of the glove and run it down the finger to the heel of the glove. Round the measurement up to the nearest half of an inch.
- 3). Subtract the measurement of your regular glove from 12.5, which is the biggest regular glove size. Then, take that number and subtract it from 34.5, which is the biggest catcher's mitt size. This will give you the catcher's mitt size you need.
- 4). Try on the catcher's mitt before you purchase it. Since catcher's mitts have a different feel to them than regular gloves, you may need to adjust the size based on preference. Go with what feels right.
