It will be steeper or flatter depending on how much you bend from the hips forward.
In order to visualize it, picture yourself standing over the golf ball like you normally would with club in hand ready to take a shot.
Now imagine a diagonal line beginning at the ball and extending up towards you and extending above and behind you.
The correct swing consists of drawing the club back and keeping it parallel to the imaginary diagonal line and if you are right handed stopping when the head of the club is above your right shoulder, then swinging it down the same path, striking the ball and following through to the top.
Proper posture should also be taken into consideration in addition to the above.

In order to swing in a proper plane, adopt the proper stance " body weight evenly distributed on the balls of the feet, arms vertical and hands low, slight bend at the hips, back straight, chin up and aim with your body.
The goal is to hit the ball dead center.
