- 1). Click the "Start" menu and type "regedit" into the search box. Hit the "Enter" key.
- 2). Go to the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" folder on the left pane and click the "Software" directory. From there, go to "Policies" and then "Microsoft."
- 3). Right-click the "Microsoft" listing, select "New" and then click "Key." Type the name as "Power."
- 4). Right-click the "Power" listing, select "New" and then click "Key" again. Type the name as "PowerSettings."
- 5). Right-click the "PowerSettings" folder, select "New" and click "Key." For the key's name, type or copy and paste this text exactly as it appears:
abfc2519-3608-4c2a-94ea-171b0ed546ab - 6). Go to the right pane and right-click a blank area. Select "New" and click "DWord (32-bit) value." Type the name as "ACSettingIndex" and hit "Enter" on your keyboard.
- 7). Right-click the "ACSettingIndex" listing and select "Modify." The value should be set to zero. If it isn't, change the value accordingly.
- 8). Go to the "File" menu and select "Exit." After closing the Registry Editor, restart your computer. When the operating system reloads, you will notice the "Sleep" option from the shut-down menu is grayed out. Users on the computer won't be able to select it and force the computer into sleep mode.
