How to Check for Arrest Convictions

    • 1). Perform a criminal background check through an online agency. Several agencies will help you run a background check on an individual to see if an arrest conviction appears. An online agency typically only needs the individual's name to run a criminal record check.

    • 2). Visit the court's website. Search all known states and counties of residence for the individual. Unless the arrest involves a juvenile or is under seal by the court for some reason, most court records are available online However, each state and county maintains their own website, so the information and accuracy may vary.

    • 3). Contact the law enforcement agency that made the arrest. The law enforcement agency will be able to give you a corresponding arrest number and case number, if applicable. Take the case number to the court to gather further information regarding whether the arrest resulted in a conviction.

    • 4). Hire a private investigator. If you are short on time, a private investigator can do the work for you. Provide the private investigator with any information that you have about the arrest.
