The district of Silom is where you'll find Bangkok's commercial business district with many international businesses sharing space with major Thai owned corporations.
By day it's an area bustling with salary men and women rushing to work.
By night Silom warps into the seediest sex district on this side of Bangkok.
It's no wonder why millions of visitors from all over the world choose to book a hotel in the district of Silom.
The major hub of this venerable red light district is Patpong 1.
Every evening beginning at 7pm the streets of Patpong 1 is closed off to vehicle traffic as armies of street vendors start setting up shop.
This is known as Patpong Night Market and it's the place to find knock off name brand wallets and anything that could be faked and copied especially pirated DVD movies.
You'll often find families, older folks and older teens wandering through the stalls of the night market right next to men and women enjoying their night at a popular bar.
Patpong 1 is situated between two major streets, Surawongse road and Silom road.
Staying in a hotel between these two roads near Patpong 1 will position you strategically to many sights and attractions in the area as well as the best restaurants and clubs.
One of the best hotels in Patpong is the massive Montien Hotel on Surawongse road.
It's one of the classiest hotels in the area with rooms with a large balcony to enjoy the sights of the city below.
Right across from the Montien Hotel is the smaller yet cozy Siam Heritage Boutique Hotel with its stylishly Thai designed inspired rooms.
There are a few other notable hotels just a bit further down from Silom road such as the Narai Hotel, a hugely popular hotel often filled with tour groups.
And if you're traveling with 8 friends and looking for budget accommodations then look no further at Lub d Bangkok Hostel.
But staying in a nice hotel is not enough.
The hotels I here mentioned are near BTS stations where you can catch the Sky Train to other parts of the major commercial zones in Bangkok.
The Sky Train is an elevated two way system that runs above the major parts of Silom with several entrances along that stretch of road.
Then there's the MRT, an underground train system that will also take you to other interesting parts of Bangkok as well.
The district of Silom in Bangkok has something for everyone.
There are clusters of bars for gays and go go bars for men and loads of great shopping opportunities for anyone.
The pub scene is quite an attraction as well with live music playing to large crowds.
Booking a hotel in Silom is a great choice as there's just so much to see and do in such a tiny space in the great big city of Bangkok.
