- Remove any and all allergens from your home. This includes harsh chemicals, soaps, laundry detergents, perfumes, pet dander or dust mites. What causes your eczema flare-ups may differ, but it's important to eliminate your specific irritants to stop a current outbreak and prevent future ones.
- Make a paste out of nutmeg and water and apply it to the affected area. Leave it on for a few minutes, then rinse it off with lukewarm water. Nutmeg helps speed the healing process and softens the skin.
- Apply zinc cream, another way to treat a severe flare-up of eczema from home. Zinc is a common ingredient in diaper rash creams, as it wicks moisture away from the skin and speeds healing. This makes it appropriate for use on eczema, because it can offer a cooling sensation and relieve some of the intense itching and burning.
