Growing up with a sister who was two years younger and a cheerleader taught me a lesson about girls.
Imagine my good fortune to have a blue-eyed, blond haired, good-looking sister who was a cheerleader in high school?Yes, it doesn't get much better than that and I can remember some of the babes she brought home to practice in our backyard their latest cheerleading routine.
Looking out my bedroom window on our two-story house was pretty exciting for young man.
Eventually as I got to know her friends better, I noticed getting a date was quite easy and getting to know how girls think and act made it easy for me to get along with all women.
You would think that a skinny track star would not get too many dates in high school, far from it.
In fact I am pretty sure it was this training that I got with getting along with girls in high school that helped me become class president my senior year.
Perhaps you have seen on TV how the teenage girls form cliques in school?It actually is quite similar to what happens.
Girls really do that and since you went to a high school you probably saw some of this yourself.
What you may not have seen is how hard the girls are on themselves and each other on the cheerleading squads.
Some are mean, some are nasty and some are vindictive and the competition is tough.
These girls really get into it and if one girl messes up the routine then all the girls give her a hard time and make her life a living hell.
It is a very emotional time for young women.
Luckily my sister was quite good although it seemed at times to be somewhat of an emotional roller coaster and the other girls on the squad were much worse.
Cheerleading is not for the weak, it is for the strong and a strong-willed; it is competitive, it is hard work and performance is paramount.
Their can be and will be no excuses for mistakes, absence or lack of performance.
If you are considering going out for cheerleading and want to be in with that crowd, then please know which are getting into.
I learned about cheerleading from that.
