- 2). Install the AOL software on your computer. If you have an AOL CD, insert the CD and follow the on-screen instructions. If you do not have a CD, you can download the latest AOL software from DAOL.AOL.com. Double-click the downloaded file to start the installer, and follow the on-screen instructions to complete installation.
- 3). Connect a phone cord from the phone jack in the wall to the modem in the back of your computer.
- 4). Launch the AOL application. You will be prompted to choose a connection type. Select "Dial-up."
- 5). Follow the on-screen prompts to set up a location. Be sure to choose a local area code for your AOL access numbers, or you will incur long distance charges on your phone bill. Set up your access numbers (three local numbers) and the dialing options (call waiting on or off). Confirm your selections.
- 6). Enter your AOL screen name and password in the "Sign On" window. You will have set up your screen name and password in Step 1 while signing up for the AOL service. Click "Sign On" to begin connecting to the Internet via AOL dial-up.
