I found this campground doing an Internet search of campgrounds in the Eagle River / Northwoods area as I have wanted to visit this area for sometime. I tent camped there in July 2008.
Describe your camping trip:
Very well kept. Staff goes out of their way to accommodate. They even deliver firewood or ice, if requested. Sites are nicely wooded with ample shade. Some are kinda close, but for the most part the ones I saw were secluded.
We were able to get the one spot down by the water with a great view. Nice heated pool and playground for kids. Exceptional prices on fishing and pontoon boat rentals. I highly recommend this for a day to enjoy some of the best fishing you'll do this side of Canada, or to just cruise around the scenic chain of lakes. Pontoons are fairly new and in good condition. Be careful at night, there are bears in the area, but unless you're leaving your garbage out or hanging out by the dumpsters on the other end of the grounds, you shouldn't have a problem. Great wildlife, and the loons calling at night make the trip worthwhile.
Pros: The atmosphere. The lakes for fishing and boating. So much to do for all ages. The heated pool is great for families and kids.
Cons: It would be nice, if they had more shore area for fishing or even a samll beach. The lakes are what make this area. The small fishing pond for kids is pretty dirty and covered with algae. Maybe dredge that and add a swimming spot would be an option.
Nearby attractions: the famous Chain of Lakes. This is the only campground on the chain. So many lakes to use for boating, and this is honestly some of the best fishing you'll ever do unless you go up to canada. Eagle River is five minutes away with shopping and dining out. If you boat, there are many bar and grills along the way through the chain into town. St. Germain and Minoqua are within an hours drive as is the Michigan UP.
Further comments: I fell in love with this place about five minutes after pulling in to the grounds. My family go camping four to five times a year, and we are making this our big trip of the year from now on.
