Motorcycle repairs are necessary to bring back your vehicle into efficient operation.
Repairs may either be on your whole motorcycle but generally repairs are necessary for just a single part of the motorcycle such as the brakes.
Brakes are necessary to stop or halt the vehicle.
A motorcycle has two brakes, one at the front wheel and the other at the back wheel.
The front wheel brake can be activated using a lever located at the right side handlebar.
The back wheel brake is activated through a pedal at the footrest on the right side of the rider.
Brakes are also of two kinds, drum brakes and disk brakes.
Both can be mechanically or hydraulically operated yet disk brakes are mostly operated through hydraulic systems and drum brakes are mostly operated by mechanical systems.
As you squeeze the hand brake, the fluid is pushed all the way through the brake line with a piston inside the cable.
The fluid then is responsible in making the calipers pressurized and thus squeezing the wheel-attached disk.
This system is how hydraulic disk brakes work.
Mechanical drum brakes, meanwhile, operates similar to the brake system of bicycles.
As you squeeze the lever, you also pull the cable.
The pulled cable results to pressing the shoe to the drum which is attached to the hub of the wheel.
Routine maintenance of motorcycle brakes can be a very dirty job to make.
Not all motorcycle owners may enjoy performing it but should you neglect doing this may put you at great risk.
Brake failures on the road, whether in motorcycles or in bigger vehicles are very dangerous.
You need to inspect your brakes and check if they need to replace them if needed.
By doing so, you save yourself from bigger expenses and worst is your life.
If you think that you cannot perform the brake inspection and replacement of shoes or pads quite well, then you can always bring the motorcycle to your mechanics.
Yet, this task is actually an easy task to perform and quite efficiently if you read the manual to heart.
When replacing the brake pad, you will need a few hand tools that are commonly found in hardware stores.
You will need the manual of the brake pad and your motorcycle, s few rags, a can of brake cleaner and a tube of high pressure brake grease made of silicone.
Motorcycles that have been built during the last 25 years utilize front disk brakes and the rear brakes may either be disk or drum brakes.
Both brake systems can be serviced in the same way, with some rare exceptions that will be explained in the user manual.
Disk brakes that are operated hydraulically can give you the advantage of being self-adjusting.
However with this type of brakes, you will find difficult to resolve if the pads are already worn out.
You may know if you have a worn brake pad by looking at the level of fluid in the cylinder.
Worn pads make the piston move farther and the fluid fills the empty space and there will be a drop in the fluid level.
