Pregnant women, even those who aren't first timers may experience undue stresses during their pregnancy.  During pregnancy, a woman will undergo changes physically and emotionally that can bring about certain distress. Pregnant women undergo mixed emotions that can be a reason for depression.  Each trimester, the woman will have different concerns thus also different state of emotions.    A woman may also experience other stresses during pregnancy that can become an anxiety.  Statistic shows that women are more prone to taking antidepressants and this is the result of a recent survey about the prescription medication.

Antidepressants have become a solution to some pregnant women who have been having problems with regards to depression.  Some women may not be able to function effectively anymore due to the stresses of pregnancy.   Paxil is one of the depressants that are offered in the market.   Paxil's is categorized having a pregnancy risk category D.  Human fetal risk is seen in a pregnancy risk category D and that the benefits should be greater than the risk when taken.

Those taking other antidepressants have lesser risks than Paxil users.   Women may have a greater possibility of having a baby with Ventricular or Atrial Septal defects.   Stopping while pregnant when you're already under Paxil has high incidences of relapse, so it is best to consult the doctor for other options.    Some of the babies require surgical intervention due to their heart defect.  The FDA recommends that the health care provider or physician discuss the risks and the benefits to anybody who will be taking Paxil.

Although there are many legitimate prescriptions written for Paxil and other antidepressants, a person who believes he or she may need to take this type of medication should consult with a primary care physician as well as a mental health professional before accepting a prescription.

Some women who have taken Paxil during the first trimester of their pregnancy that resulted to the birth defects of their babies have filed Paxil lawsuit against GlaxoSmithKline.   If taken in the last trimester of pregnancy, Paxil may have severe side effects on the newborn baby.   When there are plans of getting pregnant while taking Paxil, it is best to consult the doctor.
