- 1). Gather your B-roll in the format that you wish to edit in.
- 2). Identify the best parts of this video. Find the key moments of the tape--include important events, amazing action, emotional moments, and shots that give the video texture. If you wish, write down the approximate time codes for these clips to make it easier to find them later.
- 3). Rewind your tape to the earliest time code that you were interested in.
- 4). Begin to clip your files using your editing device. Make sure your files are succinct clips. You want the final product to look edited, and not like home video.
- 5). Locate your next highlight in your B-roll, and add that onto your timeline for editing.
- 6). Continue adding highlights until you reach the desired length of your tape. If you wish, use a microphone to record your voice onto the tape, so your voice can narrate the events in sequence. If the tape is for a sports highlight story, be sure to use vocal emphasis to highlight exciting moments like goals or misses.
- 7). Record and export the highlight tape from the editor. Show it off either online, on air, or to your family and friends.
