- Assuming your hair is moderately wavy, it is possible for you to wear your hair straight and smooth. Wash your hair, towel dry and add a straightening balm. Blow dry wet hair until it is barely damp. Pin the top section of your hair up, and using a round brush, smooth the lower parts of your hair until they are completely dry. Unpin the upper sections and work through them the same way.
For a super-straight look, finish by giving your hair a once-over with a flat iron. Add shining spray and brush through for a sleek look. - When you want a change in the opposite direction, you can wear your wavy hair curly. Wash your hair and let it dry naturally. Apply a curl enhancer such as Aveda's Be Curly while hair is still damp, and scrunch it to help exaggerate the curl. When your hair is dry, do not brush it. Instead, use a wide-tooth comb to tease the roots, especially around the crown. Use a volumizer or hairspray to lock the volume in place. If hair looks frizzy--the enemy of curls--rub shine serum on your hands and lightly run your fingers through your curls.
- Since your wavy hair has such great texture, updos are probably easier for you than most of your friends. Updos work especially well when your wavy hair hasn't been washed for a day or two. Natural oils give hair volume and "sticking power." Try pulling your hair into a ponytail in the middle of the back of your head, and then grabbing small sections, twisting them and pinning them near the base of the ponytail. The effect will be a textured, sexy updo that is casual enough for daytime wear but can quickly make the transformation to night with the addition of some rhinestone barrettes.
