- All electric ovens and some gas ovens require an electrical current to function. If there is no power to the oven, the electric oven can't heat the elements inside. It may also prevent an electric igniter from working properly on a gas oven that doesn't use a pilot. Verify that the oven is plugged in properly and that the outlet is working. If there is no power to the outlet, the problem is likely with the circuit breaker. See that it is in the "on" position and has not tripped. If the power still isn't making it to the oven, you may have wiring issues and should contact an electrician.
- If your electric oven's bake and broil elements are not working but the rest of the unit, such as the stovetop, is working normally, check the controls. See that the knobs or buttons have selected a bake or broil option. If there is still no heat in the oven, examine the clock button and knob setting to see if the appliance is set up for a timed or self-cleaning cycle. If there is a button that reads, "push for manual" on your model, push it and try the oven again.
- Sometimes in an electric oven the heating elements responsible for making the oven get hot simply malfunction. Like any other electrical part, they are prone to failure and may need replacement. Some elements plug in and come out easily, making replacement simple. Before replacing one or both of these elements, verify that they are securely plugged into the ports inside the oven and that the oven is off when attempting to work with the elements. If a connection is made, they could heat up very quickly and cause serious burns.
- If your Maytag oven is a gas unit, some other possibilities may account for why the oven won't heat. In a unit that uses an igniter instead of a simple pilot, the igniter could be faulty. There may not be a gas supply, meaning your tank is empty or the line is clogged. If you smell gas but the oven won't light, the pilot may be out. Open windows and ventilate the area before trying to relight it to avoid an explosion.
