Trick or treating during Halloween is something that many kids do every year.
For the most part things go fairly smoothly.
While bad things don't happen that often, you should still be safe.
Find out a few things that you can do that will help keep your child safe while trick or treating.
The best thing that you can do is stay with your child during the process.
As an adult you will be able to protect your child in ways that can't be done if you aren't there.
While there are some places that kids might be able to do this on their own while older, it's still good to watch as a parent.
Have your kids go to a neighborhood that is fairly safe with minimal traffic.
This is best done with people's homes that you already know personally.
Instruct your kids to not eat the candy as they get.
There are a few reasons for this.
First of all, your child might be allergic to certain things like nuts.
These will be found in fun sized candy bars often.
Secondly, you want to inspect the candy to see if there are any other issues.
Teach your children how to safely cross the roads.
Cars tend to be aware of kids trick or treating, but it's still good to remind your child to look both ways multiple times and be careful.
Have your children not interact with adult strangers.
While most of the time a random stranger will not pose a problem, you don't want to take the chance that something will happen.
Make sure your kids know to never ever go into the home of anyone.
Wait outside for the candy but never go inside.
If you are watching them, you can avoid this problem.
If not, be sure your kids know to obey this rule at all times for their own safety.
