How to Open a 3rd Generation iPod

    • 1). Insert the plastic iPod opening tool into the seam along the side of the iPod, where the front and back of the casing meet.

    • 2). Slide the tool around the perimeter of the iPod to release the latches that hold the front and back of the casing together.

    • 3). Pull the casing apart, very gently, and only create an opening of approximately half an inch.

    • 4). Locate the ribbon cable that plugs into the headphone jack.

    • 5). Unplug the ribbon cable from the jack carefully. Do not pull on the ribbon itself--only pull on the connector where it is inserted into the headphone jack.

    • 6). Pull apart the front and back of the casing, and lay each piece face down on a flat, dry surface.
