How To Get A Child To Listen

Learning how to get kids to listen needs understanding of a few basics:- 1.
Criticism creates more rebellion and backlash from a child.
When a child does something wrong, it is wise to refrain from making personal attacks and criticism.
The attacks seem to stick at the expense of the lesson that you are trying to demonstrate.
Alternatively, talk to the child in a neutral tone and explain that his or her actions were not the best choices.
Ask them what they would do differently next time.
This way you get them to participate and become part of the lesson and solution.
This is likely to stick in their minds and you may not have to repeat yourself on a similar issue in the future.
2.
It is natural human behaviour to want to associate ourselves with those people who look and talk like us, who are of the same age, who share similar beliefs etc.
Kids are likely to grasp your point of view if you take things down to their level.
Show them how other kids are behaving, be it from your neighbour's kids or from television programs and so forth.
This works very well if you show them a behaviour that is not positive and ask for their views.
It could be a scenario whereby a kid is throwing temper tantrums because they won't get something that they want e.
g candy.
Ask them what they think of the kid's behaviour and whether it is good or bad.
Further ask them how they would have handled the situation.
This way, you get to teach your kids valuable life lessons without directing focus at them, making them feeling bad in the process.
3.
Another way to get your kids to listen is to exercise fairness and listen to what they have to say.
It is only fair that you "do to kids as you wish them do unto you".
Kids copy their parents a lot.
By listening to their explanation and what they have to say, you are cultivating the value of listening to your kids.
Learning how to get kids to listen to you involves a lot of introspection from your side as a parent.
It is important that you treat your kids in such a way that they feel that they matter.
Do not make the mistake of talking down on them, and always show them the appropriate respect that you are commanding of them
