Homemade Eco-Friendly Laundry Detergent

    • 1). Grate unscented bar soap over the smallest area of a grater until you have 2 cups. Place the grated soap into a saucepan.

    • 2). Add 1 qt. of water to the saucepan. Stir the water and soap to combine them together. Heat the solution over medium-high heat.

    • 3). Stir the solution until the soap melts. Reduce the heat if the mixture boils.

    • 4). Pour 2 gallons of hot water into a bucket. Add the hot soap mixture and stir until it combines well with the water.

    • 5). Add 2 cups of Borax and washing soda into the bucket with the hot water. Add 1/2 cup of citric acid. Stir until the powder ingredients dissolve into the liquid solution.

    • 6). Secure a lid on the bucket. Allow the detergent to cool completely. Add one-quarter cup of the laundry detergent for each load of laundry.
