- 1). Make sure you have an Internet connection by using the Wiimote to click on the round Wii Options button on the bottom-left corner of your TV screen, then the wrench, then the Internet slot.
- 2). Return to the main menu.
- 3). Choose the Wii Shop Channel, then click "Start." The Wii will connect to the Wii Shop via the Internet.
- 4). Click the "Start Shopping" slot.
- 5). Take note of how many Wii points you have. Points are used to purchase titles. The number of points is displayed at the bottom-center of your screen.
- 6). Choose "Virtual Console" from the upper left corner of the screen.
- 7). Choose the "Search by Category" slot in the center, which will let you quickly find the original Nintendo system games. (You can also search by title, by category, by popularity or by newest titles added.)
- 8). Choose "System" at the top.
- 9). Choose the NES slot, which is at the top-left corner. You will be taken to the available game titles catalog for the NES system.

Browse the titles, using the scroll bar at the right to look at titles within the page. Use the arrows at the bottom to change pages. The amount of points needed to purchase each game is shown with every title. - 11
Click on titles you're interested in to get basic information about the game. Click the "View compatible controllers" to find out which controllers you can use with the game. Use the back button to return to the titles catalog page. - 12
Purchase a game by clicking the "Download" button after clicking on a title. If you don't have enough Wii points for purchase, click on the bottom-center area of the screen that shows your Wii points. - 13
Purchase Wii points if you need to, then download the game. Download to the Wii or to an SD card. - 14
Plug the classic controller into the bottom of the Wiimote or the GameCube controller into the Wii console if you've decided not to use the Wiimote to play the game. - 15
Return to the "Wii Menu" to find the game you downloaded. It will have its own channel in one of the rectangular slots either in the main menu or on the SD menu. - 16
Click the game, using the Wiimote, then choose "Start." - 17
Read the game's manual by pressing the "Home" button on the Wiimote, then selecting "Operations Guide." - 18
Play your game, using the controller of your choice. - 19
Suspend the game by hitting the home button on the Wiimote, then choosing "Wii Menu." This pauses the game, letting you return to it later. Some games let you save (see the game's manual).
