- 1). Spray a can of compressed air onto the computer keyboard. Crumbs and dirt particles often fall into the keyboard, making them almost impossible to remove. Put the straw attachment onto the nozzle of the can, and spray across the keyboard. Work in rows, starting at the top left corner and working your way from left to right.
- 2). Turn on a vacuum with a hose attachment, and run it over the keyboard. Hold the vacuum 1 inch away from the keyboard. This will collect the dirt that has been blown out of the keyboard with the can of air.
- 3). Run the vacuum over the hard drive as well. Pay special attention to the fan vents, which often accumulate the most dirt. Hold the vacuum 1 inch away from the hard drive, and follow the direction of the fan vents.
- 4). Wipe the monitor with a screen-cleaning wipe. These wipes are specially designed for use on traditional as well as flat screen monitors. Use the wipes on the base frame of the monitor as well, and also the keyboard and hard drive. These wipes are safe for all surfaces of the computer.
