How to Tie a Triangle Tie

    • 1). Place the tie around your neck. Make sure that the collar of your shirt is flipped upward and the tie is sitting under the collar flap.

    • 2). Prepare to fold your knot. In order to properly tie a tie, you’ll need to start correctly from the very beginning. The wide end of the tie - this is the side with the large triangle - should be on your right shoulder. Pull this side down so that it extends about 10 to 12 inches below the narrow piece on your left shoulder.

    • 3). Make your first loop. Taking the wide, triangle end, cross it over the top of the narrow side and bring it up through the back of the loop you’ve just created.

    • 4). Loop again. The triangle side will be on top now. Bring this section around the back of narrow section on the right side and up toward the loop on the left. Stick it through the loop and down. Do not pull too tightly as you’ll be using all these loops to secure the tie in place.

    • 5). Finish your knot. If you let the wide and narrow section hand loosely now, the triangle section will be behind the narrow section. You want to bring it in front. Pull the triangle in front of the narrow section on the right side through on the back side of the loop.

    • 6). Secure your tie. Slip the wide, triangle section through the small envelope that you created on your last loop. This is the first layer of the knot and runs parallel to your chin.

    • 7). Tighten the knot. Holding the knot with your right hand and the triangle with your left hand, secure and tighten the knot, drawing it comfortably and snugly under your neck. Fold your collar down and adjust as necessary.
