- 1). Click the "Start" button and click "Run" or "Start Search" (Windows Vista users).
- 2). Type "services.msc" (without quotes) and press "Enter" to open the Services console.
- 3). Double-click "Automatic Updates" on the right panel and click the "Log on" tab.
- 4). Click the current hardware profile in the "You can enable or disable this service for the hardware profiles listed below" box, and click "Enable."
- 5). Click "Apply" and the "General" tab. Click "Start" and "OK" to save the changes. This error should no longer be displayed when you try to download automatic updates.
