- 1). Plug an Ethernet cable into the Ethernet output on the rear of the modem. Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port on the rear of the router labeled "Internet." Plug the modem's power cord into the wall outlet and wait 30-seconds for it to load. Plug the router's power cord into the wall outlet.
- 2). Plug a second Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port on the rear of your desktop computer. Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port on the rear of the router labeled "1." Turn on the desktop computer and then open the "Start" menu. Click "Control Panel" from within the "Start" Menu and then select "Network and Sharing Center." Click "Setup a New Connection or Network" and then click "Connect To The Internet" to connect to the Internet using your broadband connection.
- 3). Turn on your laptop if it is not already on. Click the "Wireless Networking" icon, located on the task bar beside the clock. The "Wireless Networking" icon has an image of five ascending bars, and is located beside the clock on the Taskbar.
- 4). Click on the router's name in the "Wireless Networking" menu. Enter the network key if prompted and then click "Connect" to connect to the Internet using your broadband connection.
