History Of Wind Chimes

In olden days, wind chimes were not only decorative but also thought to scare away the evil spirits and pacify the good spirits. As per the claim of ancient civilizations of Asia, the musical and artistic refinements of the wind chime as theirs. The traditional or percussion wind chimes are of the simplest in appearance. But, they are the most precise in design. It is the wind which causes the chimes to strike each other or metal, wood, or rubber balls which may be hung in the center. They are for decoration as well as amusing sound. The wind is harnessed as its player and composer. This has another name, wind bell. These are a bundle of similar objects that hang from a central support.They and clink when moved by the wind. In addition, it is a cluster of objects including a clapper suspended from the support. They also function as a bell with a long clapper attached to a wind catcher that plays as the wind strikes the clapper against the bell. The frequency of wind surfing is determined by the length, width, thickness, and material. There are proper length to achieve a particular note, though a bit of fine tuning is often needed. The tone is decided by the
material such as steel, aluminum, brass, the exact alloy, heat treatment and so on. The different material makes a different sound. These sounds are not unable to specific notes. They array from pleasant tinkling to dull thumps. The fact is that it is moved by the wind and consequently makes a noise. Air column plays the major part in deciding the pitch of the tone in wind chimes. These are also helpful in observing the changes in wind directions. The manufacturers decide what musical notes should be selected when designing a set of wind chimes. These are available in the market in every size and shape. The tiniest is worn as earrings and the mini fits in the palm of the hand and has three pipes. The largest are the majority in availability. Mountings on magnets or plant stakes are also manufactured. And the most are hung from ornamental shapes or objects. The possession of these are considered a good auspicious in some countries in Asia, particularly China and Japan.
