How to Burn Movies for a DVD Player

    • 1). Launch the DVD-writing program that came with the Windows operating system. Most computers running Windows come with a DVD-burning program such as Sonic My DVD, neoDVD or ULead, according to Microsoft. Select the "Import" option from the file menu, or press the "Add" button, and use the browser that appears to select the video file you want to put on DVD.

Then simply press the "Burn" button, and the program will encode the DVD so that most DVD players can read it.

    • 2). Launch iDVD if you are using a Mac. This is the program that comes installed on all Mac OS systems. iDVD will ask you to name the new project that you are opening. After you name it, a screen will open with a variety of menu-screen options. If you want a menu screen, browse the options and choose one. You can then simply drag the video files, which must be in .MOV format to work with the program, onto the menu screen, and they will appear as bullet points.

Once you are done designing the menu screen, press the red "Burn" button on the bottom-right corner of the screen. iDVD will then encode a blank DVD with a video file that most DVD players can read.

    • 3). Download DVD-burning software like Nero, Movavi Video Suite or Easy DVD Creator. (See links in Resources.) Each of these have special features that might make them more appealing than the basic DVD converter, such as the ability to encode a greater variety of file types or to create more complex menus and even subtitles. They all have trial versions so that you can become better acquainted with their strengths.
