Removing Clay From My Leather Work Boots

    • 1). Take your leather work boots outside or place them over an outdoor trash can. Brush the boots vigorously with a leather brush to remove both loose and dry clay from the boots.

    • 2). Fill a large bowl or plastic container with 1/2 gallon of cold water and 2 cups of a mild soap. Stir the soap mixture with a soft cloth or rag. Wring out excess water from the cloth or rag.

    • 3). Scrub your leather work boots thoroughly with the cloth or rag to remove the clay. Re-dip the cloth or rag, wring out excess and continue scrubbing your boots until the boots are clean. Change cloths or rags when they become too soiled with clay and debris.

    • 4). Wet a clean, soft cloth or rag under cold, running water. Wring out excess and wipe your boots with the cloth or rag to remove any soap mixture residue. Dry your leather work boots thoroughly with a clean, large towel.

    • 5). Apply 2 tablespoons of a leather dressing or conditioner to a soft cloth or rag. Wipe your boots with the dressing or conditioner-soaked cloth or rag to restore the leather’s shine. Repeat step until both boots are completely treated.

    • 6). Allow the dressing or conditioner to dry overnight and then wipe off any excess the next morning.
