- 1). Switch off the circuit breaker powering your dryer in the main electrical panel in the laundry room, garage or basement. Unplug your dryer.
- 2). Pull your dryer away from the wall, exposing the backside of the appliance. Unfasten the rear access panel with a screwdriver. Put the rear access panel and the screws aside.
- 3). Find the terminal block, mounted inside the back of the dryer. The terminal block will be easy to identify. It's a black, plastic block with three or four slots and three or four wires running to it that are red, black, white and green. Note the placement of each colored wire.
- 4). Disconnect the wires from the terminal block using a screwdriver or a nut driver, whichever is applicable to your make and model dryer. Pull the old pigtail power cord away from the appliance and set it aside or dispose of it.
- 5). Fit the new pigtail into place. Connect the wires just as the others were connected, using a nut driver or screwdriver.
- 6). Replace the rear access panel on your dryer. Plug the dryer into the electrical outlet. Switch the circuit breaker back on.
