- PVC has an advantage over other piping because it is pliable. It can easily be cut with a handsaw and new pieces can be added with glue. The glue makes the ends of the PVC pipe partially melt; this creates a permanent seal when pressed against the added pipe.
- A shutoff (or stop) valve is designed to stop the water flow at the point the valve is placed. PVC pipe valves can be purchased at a standard hardware store.
- To install the valve, an area should be cut out of the pipe leaving enough of a gap for the valve to fit. Once the valve is in place, the glue will seal and hold it in place.
- When working with any water system, the water should be turned off at the source beforehand. Test the seal before full use of the system is resumed.
