Low Fat Diet to Reduce Cholesterol

The doctor has informed you the cholesterol is too high and needs to be reduced. Then advised you to reduce the fat in your diet down so low per day, you feel like a vegan. I know how this feels as been through the same. Here, what I did to lose weight and reduce my cholesterol.

Diet advised by the doctor was to stay on was 10 grams or less of fat per day to lower cholesterol. That is hardly any fat which making getting protein difficult. First step to take is to start reading labels on all food items. Buying only the foods with little or no fat so remember when cooking oils increase fat in the food. The second step is to learn more about the different fats as some are good and can be consumed. Once you have a good understanding of these two facts then staying on a low-fat diet is easy and can be managed to curb the hunger.

Let's go back to the first step, when reading labels the total fat should not be greater than 20% to 30% of the total calories. Watch the portion size when cooking, only using the bare minimumĀ  of ingredients that increase fat. The good fats protein from fish, for example, is a great form of protein that can be consumed. I removed beef reduced the pork intake and increase the fish; chicken and turkey. Stop eating at the fast food places that deep fry the food. Changing the way you cook to baking or grilling meats will reduce the fat levels and provide healthier meals. The main dinner item that I ate mostly was tuna casserole with one extra can of tuna and lots of vegetables included. This gave the protein need and the vegetables provided the vitamins. The other main course was pasta using sauce without meat. Eating unlimited vegetables and salads is fine but watch out for the salad dressings as most contains fat so purchase the low-fat or no fat dressings.

When on a low-fat diet, you will start to notice two things. The first problem to overcome is hunger, so protein is what curbs the appetite. Using almonds by eating four to five at a time will provide protein and the fat is good for your diet. Eating smaller meals four to five times a day will also work, but not easy to do, so consider using a weight loss shake using almond milk or soy-milk. I use almond milk for cooking and making these shakes low in fat and calories, taste good.

In a few months, you notice that you are cold especially in the hands and feet. This happens, in warm weather, the heat will no longer be a problem. I enjoy this the most on those hot summer days as was able to walk a brisk pace without breaking a sweat. The doctor also advise walking to lower the cholesterol levels so this is a must to do every day. I walked every day outside even in bad weather and this activity only takes 30 minutes every day. So work into your schedule walking every day.

Staying on this diet and walking every day has another benefit weight loss. Eating small meals, using the healthy meal shake replacement will allow the body to burn fat resulting in weight loss. This process takes time I loss 85 pounds and lower my cholesterol to healthy levels without any medication the first year. I then stayed on this diet or should be call a lifestyle change for another year maintaining for the second year. Career change I put the weight back on and now in the process of losing the weight again. Stay on the diet keeping the weight off and keeping cholesterol levels low is much easier than losing.
