- 1). Open your Qwest Actiontec M1000 modem box and remove all of the contents. It should contain the modem, four filters, a black power cord, a green phone cord, a yellow Ethernet cord and an installation CD.
- 2). Unplug any phones or other devices plugged into phone jacks that are on the same line as your Qwest Internet connection. Plug the cord end of the filter into each jack that was in use and plug each device into the receiving end of the filter. The filters eliminate the Internet signal from the line so that regular communications can take place.
- 3). Plug the modem power cord into a wall outlet or surge protection device. Plug the other end into the back of the modem. Wait for the light labeled "Power" to turn green on the front of the modem.
- 4). Plug one end of the phone line into a phone jack that is not in use at all. Plug the other end into the back of the modem in the "Line" port. Wait for the DSL light to turn green.
- 5). Plug one end of the yellow Ethernet cord into the Ethernet port on your computer and the other end into the "Ethernet" port on the modem. Wait for the "Ethernet" light to turn green; it might flicker as well. You can skip this step if you are using going to use a wireless connection.
- 6). Turn on your computer. Insert the installation CD into your optical drive. Follow the self-explanatory instructions to finalize installation of your modem and software. You are now able to use your Qwest Actiontec M1000 modem.
