- 1). Insert the Windows 98 startup disk into the computer. Restart the computer and press any key to boot from the disk.
- 2). Select "Start without CD support," type "fdisk", press "Enter," press "Y" to enable large disk support, and press "1" twice to create a DOS partition.
- 3). Press "N" when asked if you want to use the maximum available amount of space for the partition. Enter a value that is half of your maximum drive size. Select the "FAT32" file system.
- 4). Press "Esc" twice, type "format c:", press "Enter" and select "Y." Restart your computer with the Windows 98 disk in the drive.
- 5). Press any key to boot from the disk and select "Start with CD support."
- 6). Type "x:\setup" and press "Enter," replacing "x" with the drive letter of your CD drive. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the Windows 98 installation.
- 7). Insert the XP CD into the computer. Restart the computer and press any key to boot from CD.
- 8). Press "Enter" and "F8" to move to the installation screen. Press "C" and create a partition using the remaining half of your hard drive space.
- 9). Select the NTFS file system and press "Enter." Select the newly created partition and press "Enter" to install Windows XP.
