- 1). Click on the "ISO file" option after purchasing Windows 7 from the Microsoft webstore (www.microsoftstore.com). You will be redirected to a page with a link to download the file. This file will be extremely large and the download may take several minutes to complete.
- 2). Download the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool from the CNET website (download.CNET.com) . Click on the link provided and save the tool onto your computer. You must use this tool to install the ISO file onto the drive; you cannot drag and drop the file onto the drive as you would with any normal file.
- 3). Insert the flash drive into an open USB port on your computer. Delete all of the data that is on the drive after backing it up onto your computer's hard drive. The drive must be clean before you can move the ISO file. Open the Windows 7 USB/DVD Tool by clicking on the file you have downloaded.
- 4). Follow the instructions on screen to move the file to the USB drive. Click "Next" to begin, then click on the "Folder" button to select the Windows 7 ISO file from your hard drive. You will see a status bar showing the progress of moving the file. Once again, this may take several minutes to complete.
- 5). Wait for the screen stating that the procedure has been completed. Close the window and restart your computer, leaving the USB drive in the port. When the computer reboots, you will see a Windows 7 installation screen appear instead of your current operating system. Follow the onscreen instructions to install or upgrade to Windows 7.
