How to Securely Install a Netgear Router

    • 1). Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to the Internet connection device such as a cable or DSL modem.

    • 2). Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to the "Internet" or "WAN" port on the router.

    • 3). Connect wired computers to the router's "LAN" ports with Ethernet cables.

    • 4). Open a Web browser, then type "192.168.1.1" into the address bar. Press "Enter."

    • 5). Type "admin" and "password" for the username and password.

    • 6). Click the "Wireless Settings" link in the left column.

    • 7). Click "WPA" or "WPAv2," then type in a password to use for the wireless network.

    • 8). Click "Apply" to save and apply the settings.

    • 9). Click "Set Password" in the left column.

      Enter a new password in the "New password" and "Repeat new password" fields. Click "Apply" to save the changes.
