How to Retrieve Data From an SD Card After Reformatting

    • 1). Order recovery software. This is the only way you will be able to retrieve deleted information. However, most recovery programs only recover photos. You can download this software online for a small fee or you can purchase the software from certain computer shops. (See "Resources" section for link)

    • 2). Download the software to your PC. Follow the onscreen prompts for proper installation. Do not insert your SD card into the PC, until you are prompted to.

    • 3). Insert the SD card, after you install the software. Do not open the SD card from the "My Computer" folder.

    • 4). Open the installed recovery program and select the media that you wish to recover by clicking it when prompted. Although many programs only recover pictures, you may find programs that recover additional file types such as MP3s, MP4s, AVIs, WAVs and MIDs.

    • 5). Allow the program to recover the media, do not remove the card during this process. Once the media is fully recovered click "Finish."

    • 6). Choose a safe location to save your recovered media to. Once the files have been recovered, they will be displayed on screen in a list. Right-click the file and save it to a location of your choosing. Do not save the media back to your corrupted memory card.
