Like all sports hockey is a game that requires a decent amount of strategy.
Too many coaches, players, and parents look at strategy as the individual plays that a team will use.
The way hockey strategy needs to be approached is much different.
Hockey strategy is always being used and always changing.
Every time somebody moves to a new position, a line is changed, or a puck is moved the situation changes.
To become skilled at hockey strategy you have to constantly adjust with a constantly changing game.
There are a few things that need to be done in order to do this correctly.
1) Balance Strengths and Weaknesses There are two types of strengths and weaknesses, there are strengths and weaknesses of the entire team, and there are strengths and weaknesses in individual players.
The best coach will match both of these factors.
2) Dictate the Flow of the Game It is impossible to accurately predict what the other team is going to do.
That is why it is important for you to decide what happens.
You must force the other team into one position where they have one option, and this must be done all the time.
You also have to put yourself in a position where you can do whatever you want whenever you want.
3) Aggressively take every opportunity to score Under no circumstances should you give up a scoring chance.
This is a no brainer.
4) Remain unpredictable all the time The best teams are the ones that do what nobody expects them to do.
When you are going at the net, take a route that nobody would expect, do something crazy and throw the other team off of their game.
Pretend to not know what you are doing, and then take advantage of the first opening you see.
Conclusion If you do all of this right all the time, then you will never lose a game.
There are many other factors that go into winning, but this sums up the top.
