- 1). Install to both your laptop and your desktop the software included with your USB bridge cable. Select to install the drivers for "Network Mode," if available.
- 2). Power off both the laptop and the desktop. Connect one end of a USB bridge cable to an available USB slot on the HP laptop's dock.
- 3). Connect the other end of the USB bridge cable to an available USB slot on the desktop.
- 4). Flip the switch on the USB bridge cable so that it is in "On" position, if applicable.
- 5). Power on the HP laptop and the desktop computer and wait for the operating systems to load.
- 6). From the HP laptop, click "Start" then choose "Control Panel." Double-click "Network Connections." Look for a Local Area Connection with a "Device Name" of "USB-USB Adapter" or something similar.
- 7). Right-click the connection, then click "Properties." Select the "Advanced" tab. Check "Allow other network users to control or disable the shared Internet connection."
- 8). Click "OK." Restart both your laptop and your desktop computer.
