- Picture frames are simple to make out of Popsicle sticks and provide an effective way to display kids' art or favorite photos. Glue four sticks together in the corners to create a square, then paint the frame in bright colors for a cheerful effect. Decorate the corners with stickers, punched paper shapes, buttons. rhinestones or beads to hide the joints.
Make door hangers by laying down craft sticks, side by side, on the table top, then gluing a stick to the top and bottom across the ends of the other sticks to hold them together. Turn over the frame and paint with craft tempera or wood paint. Allow the paint to dry, then decorate the front with either a name or a magazine picture. Glue a length of ribbon to the back of the frame to hang the door hanger over a doorknob. - Trinket boxes or holders for kitchen utensils are simple to make and decorate with Popsicle sticks. Use a cylindrical container for a kitchen utensil holder, such as an oatmeal box. Cover the box by gluing craft sticks around the side, making sure they touch each other without any gaps between them. Depending on the height of the box, you might need two rows of sticks. Make trinket or jewelry boxes in the same way, but use smaller, square containers. Decorate the finished box or utensil holder by either painting it or using wood stain in natural or colored finishes.
- Make Christmas tree decorations such as mini glittered trees or stars. For stars, you'll need six Popsicle sticks. Make two triangles by gluing the ends of three sticks together. Join the triangles by gluing one on top of the other, offsetting the corners so you have six points on the star. "Paint" the star with white craft glue, then sprinkle glitter over it. When it's dry, tie a ribbon on one point to make a hanger.
To make a tree, lie a single stick down on the work surface, then glue more sticks across it at right angles for the branches. Stagger cut the "branches" so they get shorter as they reach the top of the tree. Glue on small glass beads for baubles. - A fan is simple to make using cardboard for the fan itself with a craft stick for the handle. Cut a shape for the fan out of cardboard, making it as large or small you like, but big enough to waft some air when it's waved. Cut a simple animal shape by cutting an oval with two points or half-circles on the top to represent ears. Glue the fan shape to the top of the Popsicle stick to make the fan.
Make puppets in the same way, by cutting out faces or cartoon characters from magazines or comics, then gluing them onto the top of the sticks.
