- 1). Place the bike on a flat surface. Extend the kickstand so the bike stays up without your aid. Locate the nuts holding the rear wheel in place.
- 2). Grab one training wheel. Each training wheel includes a wheel attached to a long metal bracket with a hole in it. Keep one training wheel with you, place the other on the other side of the bike's rear wheel.
- 3). Loosen the rear wheel nut nearest you by turning the wrench in a counter-clockwise direction. If the bolt does not move at first, you may need to hold the nut on the opposite side of the wheel with another wrench. Hold the opposite nut steady while attempting to turn the nut and loosen it. Fully remove the nut.
- 4). Slide the training wheel bracket onto the exposed bolt. The hole in the bracket fits directly on the bolt. Once it is on, the training wheel should be upright, just like the bike's larger wheels. Replace the nut over the training wheel bracket, and tighten it in a clockwise direction.
- 5). Move to the other side of the bike, and repeat steps 1 through 4 to install the other training wheel.
- 6). Set the wheels to the right notch to match your child's skill level. The highest notch sets the wheels farthest away from the rear tire and offers the most support. As your child grows and becomes more adept at balancing and riding her bike, adjust the training wheels into the lower notches.
