- 1). Determine length requirements and use a scissors to cut cable to size. Strip approximately one-inch of the protective plastic coating from each end of the cable with cable crimper/stripper.
- 2). Straighten and separate into eight wire ends and sort each end in the following color order from left to right:
Orange/White
Orange
Green/White
Blue
Blue/White
Green
Brown/White
Brown
Lay the wires side-by-side and use a scissors to trim and even wire ends. - 3). Insert an RJ-45 connector onto each wire end so the insertion clip faces downward. Keeping the wire ends in the proper order, slip the connector on so it covers all exposed wires and a small portion of the plastic cable coating. In order to establish a connection, the RJ-45 connector must catch on the plastic coating, and the metal teeth in the connector must make contact with the exposed wire ends. If the wire is too long to catch on the plastic coating, remove the connector and trim as necessary. Insert the connector into the cable crimper and press to lock.
- 4). Test the cable using a cable tester. To use a cable tester, first turn it on to make sure the battery is live. Then insert both connector ends into the RJ-45 connector slots. A green light indicates a successful build. A red blinking light indicates a problem with cable wiring.
