- 1). Use precaution when relaying information on the phone. This should be so even if the number on your caller's ID appears to be from someone you trust, such as your bank. If you are asked for sensitive information, hang up and redial the number.
- 2). Create a PIN or a password for your voice mailbox to prevent caller ID spoofing. Most systems are set to allow access to the mailbox if the call appears to be from the owner's account.
- 3). File a complaint with the FCC if you suspect caller ID spoofing. You can call the number directly at 888-225-5322, or you can file a complaint using the complaint form.
