- 1). Set up a keg for guests to enjoy. It's best to set these up in your backyard or on a patio to avoid spills on your carpet or hardwood floors. Stack plenty of disposable cups next to the kegs. One full keg includes about 7 cases, or 168, 12-oz. beers, according to the San Francisco Brewing Company. Calculate how many kegs you need to serve your guests, and try not to have too much beer leftover, as keg beer can go stale quickly.
- 2). Organize beer-themed games. A college-themed keg party calls for drinking games that involve beer. Flip Cup involves two competing teams flipping plastic cups that are right-side-up to land upside down. The first team to flip all of their cups wins. Another popular keg party game, Beer Pong, requires guests to toss a ping pong ball into a cup filled with beer on the opposite side of the table. If the player gets the ball in the cup, his opponent has to drink the beer in it. The first team to run out of cups loses.
- 3). Offer snacks. Hearty appetizers and snack foods will keep guests from getting too intoxicated. Choose casual party foods like pigs in a blanket, chips and dip, chicken wings and nachos. Or, build a menu that complements the beer you serve. For example, pale ales pair well with hearty food. Serve up hamburger sliders with a range of toppings or sharp cheeses with crackers.
- 4). Build a playlist. Music is essential for any party, and a keg party calls for upbeat music. Guests will be playing games and socializing, so you want to keep your music at a volume that allows them to hear without overpowering the party or angering the neighbors. The type of music you choose depends on your tastes, but classic rock tunes by artists like the Rolling Stones or more current bands like Dave Matthews Band are usually a hit. Once the beer starts flowing, you can switch to dance tunes for those guests who want to get down.
