- 1). Download the Gizmo5 softphone application (see Resources). Choose to save the program when prompted to either save or run it. Locate the downloaded file in the folder you saved it to, and click the installation icon twice to start the installation wizard. Expect the installation to take approximately five minutes.
- 2). Go to "Start," "Programs" and locate the "Gizmo" or Google Voice program icon. Click twice to open it and type in your user name and password. Wait for the softphone application to open fully. You will see a screen that holds your contacts, and a box where you can type in the number you want to call.
- 3). Type in the number you want to call in the appropriate form box at the top of the screen. Click the green phone icon to dial the number. Wait for someone on the other end to pick up the phone, or hang up if no one answers by clicking on "End Call."
- 1). Attach a USB VoIP phone to the USB port on the computer. These special adapters can be found at local computer accessory stores. Wait for the USB phone to be detected automatically. Insert the driver CD packaged with the phone, if required by the USB phone manufacturer. (Some phones do not require a driver CD and automatically install.)
- 2). Download the Gizmo5 soft phone application as you did in Step 1 of Section 1. Install the aplication and open the program. Type in your user name and password. Wait for Gizmo to connect to the Internet.
- 3). Dial the number on the USB phone and wait for the call to be processed like it would be on a normal telephone call.
