"Still Hot - Uncensored Guide to Divorce" Sue Mittenthal, Linda Reing - Review
About.com Rating
A book that makes women cackle and men cringe must be hitting some kind of nerve, right? Still Hot is that kind of book. It's a quick, fun read that feels like GNO (girls night out) at an open mic night for divorcees at a comedy club ; the zingers just keep on coming.
Dispatches from the Battle of the Exes
The authors (journalist Sue Mittenthal and standup comic wannabe Linda Reing) talk about infidelity and divorce with the kind of details that drive home the fact that they've been there, done that, and brought back the souvenir t-shirt to prove it.
And they've extended their knowledge base with nearly a hundred interviews from other women who've survived the meat grinder of divorce without being irreparably shredded.
Their savvy and insightful tidbits, sprinkled among the wacky stories and LOL moments, have more than comic value. They may actually teach you a thing or two.
No Crybabies Here
Recognizing the signs of an unfaithful spouse, choosing a divorce lawyer, clearing out any evidence of your ex in your home and your life, starting to date again, and dealing with his-and-her emotional baggage are just some of the topics the women skewer with wit and style. Still Hot is the kind of book to leave on the bedside table when you're going through separation and divorce and need a no-self-pity-allowed pep talk.
A Dangerous Book to Have Lying Around
It's not a self-help book, unless you believe that laughter is the best medicine. It is, however, a great girlfriend gift for someone you know coping with divorce and finding herself suddenly single.
Word to the wise: If you're happily married, don't leave this book lying around where your husband can find it; mine threatened to burn it for me, or run it through the paper shredder. It's not a book a guy can comfortably read. But then again, the truth hurts when you're not laughing between the lines.
