- Finger sandwiches are easy to make, easy to eat and filling enough to work as a main selection on your baby shower menu. The easiest way to create finger sandwiches is to make a basic sandwich and cut it into fourths. Simple sandwiches include roast beef and Swiss cheese, ham and cheese, tomato and mozzarella and bacon, lettuce and tomato. Fancy sandwiches include cucumber and cream cheese, shrimp salad and crab salad. Slide a decorative toothpick into each sandwich to keep it together. The toothpicks also provide little splashes of color when the sandwiches are stacked on the platter.
- Give your baby shower a tropical twist with fruit kabobs instead of regular fruit salad. Slide sliced pineapple, mango, cantaloupe, watermelon and green grapes onto wooden skewers to create each kabob. Mix vanilla yogurt and honey in a bowl to create a dipping sauce. Arrange the kabobs on a platter around the bowl and sprinkle with coconut shavings.
- Think outside the box when it comes to serving chips and dip at a baby shower. Instead of going for packaged dips, whip up your own. Place a block of cream cheese on a plate, cover it with salsa and serve with tortilla chips for Southwest flavor. Circle the chips around the cream cheese and top with a sprig of cilantro to dress up the dish. Offer baked brie and roasted garlic cloves with pita chips to give the party a fancy feel. Create an artichoke-parmesan dip, fresh guacamole dip or a homemade French onion dip, and serve with any chips.
- The hardest part of making deviled eggs is removing the shells from the boiled egg. Once you remove the shells, the rest is easy. Simply cut each shelled egg in half, and scoop the yolk into a bowl. Mix the yolks with your own special ingredients, or just add some ranch salad dressing and sprinkle with crumbled bacon. Spoon the mixture into each egg half, and arrange on a pink or blue platter. Sprinkle each egg with a little sweet paprika or diced parsley to add a hint of color.
- Quiche is an elegant and filling offering for morning or brunch baby showers. Miniquiches work best if your menu is filled with finger foods, and large slices of quiche work best for a sit-down meal. Go simple with ham and cheese, spinach and bacon or three-cheese quiche. Go sophisticated with artichoke heart and prosciutto or goat's cheese quiche. Use muffin or minimuffin tins to create the small quiches and pie tins to create larger quiches.
- Adorn cupcakes with baby-themed decorations to create a sweet treat for guests. Bake chocolate or vanilla cupcakes in pink liners if a girl is expected, blue liners if a boy is expected and yellow if the sex is unknown. Cover each cupcake with appropriately colored frosting, and finish with a plastic rubber ducky or baby bottle cupcake topper.
