Swelling after breast augmentation surgery is normal as it is how our body reacts to irritation and trauma.
There will be swelling on the chest which will transfer to the abdomen and groin area before it disappears.
Pain and discomfort are two of the words used to describe swelling but there are things you can do to help ease it.
Cold treatment is best for the swelling due from breast enlargement surgery.
You can use froze peas, fruits or vegetables or ice packs for this treatment.
Since that ice packs and gel packs are frozen in a rectangular shape, it will just sit on your breast.
Use frozen food packs but remember to use an extra bag or else all the food 'juice' will be on you when it melts.
You can use ice cubes for the first few days then use individual ice cubes.
The surgeon may recommend you to sleep in a comfortable chair for the first few days.
Sleeping in the upward position helps the swelling to transfer to the abdomen and groin area.
That is the way to relief pressure and pain in the chest area.
A supportive surgical bra might be given to reduce the swelling.
This bra allows the fluids to move freely due to the pressure on the breast.
With this bra, it helps with healing you and reducing the pain.
Some people may take herbal or synthetic diuretics including coffee and tea after the surgery.
It is best to ask your surgeon if it will do any harm to your body.
Drink lots of water so that the body can absorb fluids and leave fluids that can't be absorb.
About 75% of swelling should be gone by the first few days although it will take a few weeks for the rest to heal.
This is the way of our body healing and realizing that it does not need extra fluid to protect itself.
